We decided that as of next year, we would try to live more chemical free as part of our new years resolution. I’m actually quite proud of myself because I started early (a month before New Years) and did my research to give us the best chance at achieving the goal.
This week, I’ve been working on making my own cleaning products out of natural cleaners and essential oils. Having the house smell nice (and like chemicals) is a massive motivator for me to clean, so I knew I needed all my cleaners to smell really good but also kill all the bad stuff . Choosing three antibacterial scents and mixing them with the other ingredients; I then poured my concoctions into glass bottles and made some very simple but super cute labels for differentiation. I have actually ordered the trigger spray tops but I am currently dealing with the atrocious company and am still waiting for them (will not be recommending them).
Labels are available here:
I am very pleased with how they turned out and how nice they look under the sink! It actually motivated me to reorganize my sink storage too, which you can read about here, but without further adieu …here are the recipes I used:
2 cups white vinegar
2 cups water
1 teaspoon natural dish soap
30 drops lemon essential oil
20 drops lemongrass essential oil
2/3 cup white vinegar
1 1/3 cups distilled water
5 drops of lavender essential oil
Stainless Steel Polish
I am yet to transition to a home made polish. I added a few drops of the lemon essential oils to the concoction I already had
Stove Top Cream
500ml of diluted vinegar. (I’m not too impressed with how my stove looks after this though, so will look for another alternative once I use up this batch)
1 cup distilled water
1 cup white distilled vinegar
15 drops of peppermint essential oil (I purchased a mint and cucumber blend)
Please note that I have only been trying these recipes myself for quite a short time and am absolutely no expert on home made cleaning products. I’m at a trial and error stage so please proceed with caution. Someone actually told me today that some essential oils can ruin a plastic bath (which I did not know), so I am still researching to make sure I have all the details.
