I’ve had so many questions on how I store numerous items throughout my house, so I am slowly going through and taking photos for you all. Today, we start with the kitchen. Our kitchen is quite small and consists of 6 drawers and 7 cupboards. We store a lot of the bulkier items in the pantry but keep things like plates and glassware in cabinets for easy reach. So, let’s get started!
Single Cupboard – Platters
It is awfully difficult to store bulkier items efficiently, which is why I only purchase limited platters that I know I will use. I try to find platters which are versatile. I’ve stacked the platters on top of each other which proves to be difficult but since they’re only used occasionally, it’s not too much of a hassle. In the future, I would like to do something similar to how I store my baking trays in the pantry.
A while ago, I purchased these basket drawers from K-mart which were about 50c each on clearance. I took the baskets out and use them in the crisper drawers of my fridge. The outer half is what separates my chopping boards so they’re easy to grab.
Deep Drawer – Platters
These platters and serving boards are kept in the bottom drawer right next to the stove. I use a lot of these for when we entertain and serve things like individual pot pies, or fondues etc.
Double Cupboard – Plates and Containers
This cupboard houses all of our plates as well as the glass containers I use in the fridge. Because the cupboards are wide and tall, I’ve utilised the space above the dinnerware for extra storage with shelf raisers from K-Mart. Behind the plates and bowls, I keep our salad bowls and the lazy susan on the bottom shelf usually has our lunch boxes and lunch box dividers.
Single Hanging Cupboards – Glassware
These cupboards hang on either side of our stove top and we use them to store all of our glassware and ice-cream/milkshake serving platters.
Double Cupboard – Under the Sink
This one was a little hard to organise because of all the awkward plumbing. You can read all about what I did here.
Deep Drawer – Essentials
This drawer is located right next to the stove top and I keep everything we use regularly in there.
Drawer – Cutlery
I have used some of the K-Mart bamboo dividers to segregate the cutlery within this drawer.
Drawer – Utensils
Utensils seem to always clutter up drawers so I have taken a very minimal approach to mine. I don’t even own a ladle because I just use a measuring cup for soups and liquids and it doubles as a portion control measure.
Drawer – Place mats
Drawer – Tea Towels
I keep my tea towels and oven mitts in the last drawer by the stove. Believe it or not, that is the same roll of cling wrap I purchased when we moved into this house almost three years ago. Containers really do save you a tonne on plastic!
And here is the plan of our kitchen for clarity. I have also just realised I didn’t photograph or mention the cupboard above the fridge but it’s our alcohol and wine cupboard. Nothing exciting.
